Everyone has to start somewhere..

Hello!

Welcome to my new blog, I will admit I've never blogged before so bear with me- counselling is one thing, blogging is a whole other concept for me!

I will use this blog as a platform to post things that are on my mind/ relevant to counselling but also to raise awareness of things that might be of interest to my readers. For example, yesterday was National Rare Disease Day, did you know? I didn't until a client of mine shared it with me. I find as a society, we are so wrapped up in our own little bubble we forget to look up from our phones/laptops/etc and realise there's bigger things going on in the world (I admit I'm a hypocrite to this too!). Did you know 1 in 20 people will live with a rare disease at some point in their life and quite often there are no cures for the majority of them, and some even go undiagnosed. To have a disease generally is one thing but to have a disease that no-one probably has heard of, minimal research on, no medical interventions for and possibly no cure is another thing. For more information please visit http://www.rarediseaseday.org/

Counselling can help offer support when there's a long-term or terminal illness, although we can't wave our magic wands and make everything better (believe me we wish we could!) we can be that outlet of sharing everything that is going on for you. A full 50 minutes where the only person that matters is you- it's your time, your space, your outlet.

I think that'll be it for my first ever blog, I will blog about expectations of counselling and more information generally around counselling for anyone that is a little apprehensive or hasn't had counselling before over the next few days.

Thank you for reading
