How are you doing?

So we’re 3 weeks into quarantine/ lockdown and I’m noticing there’s an increasing amount of anxiety and uncertainty about how long this will last. The unknown is a big trigger for anxiety and anxious thoughts and in times like these it can be difficult to manage/ control. Although many factors will be challenged in times like these, I feel as if mental health will be challenged the most, self-care, exercise and ‘me time’ has never been so important. Remember, self-care is NOT selfish, it is a necessity.

I have created a document of mindful and relaxation techniques, along with good mindful apps to try. Many have already been sent it and have found it helpful so please let me know if you’d like me to send it to you too.

Other things that could be tried:

- A positive journal: writing down your positives of the day, no matter how big or small. Do this everyday.

- Write yourself a list of things that you’d like to get done during this time and tick them/ cross them off when you’ve completed it.

- Keep your ‘social diary’ as normal as possible, if you have dinner with a friend every Monday then schedule in a video chat with them weekly instead. Video chat may not be as good as face to face but it’s better than no socialising at all.

- Check in with friends and family regularly, you may be the only one who does. Especially those who live on their own.
